Effects of Age and Sleep Deprivation on Face, Eyes and Cosmetic Procedures to Prevent the Effects

It’s hard not to love sleep.  We spend two thirds of our lives in a state of rejuvenation where we can relax and dream the night away.  But for many, sleeplessness is a serious problem, especially those who suffer from long-term sleep deprivation.  Lack of sleep can cause a multitude of health issues from memory problems to high blood pressure and any number of heart issues including the serious possibility of heart attacks.

Eyes Cosmetic Procedures Correct Prevent Effects

Sleep deprivation can also wreak havoc on the skin, most notably the face and eyes.  Chronic sleep deprivation often ages the skin dramatically.  Puffy eyes, dull skin, and quick forming wrinkles are all side effects of long term sleep loss.  Even after issues of sleeplessness have been resolved, the damage done to the face, eyes and eyelids can linger.  If you have suffered from chronic lack of sleep it is important to consider every option in repairing the damage done.  While there are holistic ways of approaching the issue, often times cosmetic surgery is required to heal the wrinkles and bags caused by sleeplessness.

Long-term sleep deprivation damages the eyes first and foremost.  Overtime the skin around the eyelids becomes elastic and dark pockets or bags start to form.  One way of correcting this issue surgically is through a procedure called blepharoplasty.  A quick and relatively painless procedure, blepharoplasty involves a small incision around the eyelid and the removal of loose darkened skin.  The procedure tightens the skin around the eyes and can reverse much of the damage done by chronic sleep deprivation.

Other procedures to repair damage to the eyes and eyebrows include endoscopic brow lift and lower eyelid lift.  Like blepharoplasty, both methods use small incisions around the eye or hairline to help remove excess skin.

While sleep deprivation specifically targets the eyes, the face as a whole is not immune to damage.  Chronic lack of sleep prematurely ages the face in a way only facial lifts can repair.  Wrinkles tend to form quickly after losing sleep and even a few days without rest can cause damage.  Those who have trouble sleeping and are already experiencing aging in the face should consider fillers to help slow the aging process.

While a healthy night’s rest is important, for some it is not a reality.  Insomnia and other health issues lead to facial damages and premature aging.  Luckily there are surgical options to combat the effects of sleeplessness.
