Also known as Abdominoplasty, a Tummy Tuck removes excess fat and skin from an abdomen that juts out or sags. A tummy tuck is not the same as Liposuction which is considered to be a less invasive procedure using general anesthetic with no removal of skin. Many people in Chennai choose to have both surgeries as they need the fat sucked out and the skin cut away and tucked in to tighten the body. Tummy tucks are not a substitute for weight loss or excuse one from engaging in exercise. Also, tummy tuck operations won’t remove stretch marks.
While the reasons to get one of these operations are legitimate, many people get these surgeries to correct a past filled with lots of sweet & fatty food, fast food & junk food.
How Tummy Tuck’s work:
Loose skin and fat are removed from the abdomen and the stomach muscles are tightened using sutures. As mentioned before, Abdominoplasty is not the same as liposuction though one can elect to undergo both procedures.
Step One: Consultation. You will meet with a surgeon and during the consultation determine what exactly is expected and you’ll be warned of the dangers of smoking before undergoing surgery. The surgeon will make some marks on your abdominal area with a marker indicating the areas that he will remove.
Step Two: If you are to undergo a complete Abdominoplasty, this means that you have loose skin or fat deposits above the navel. This will involve two incisions: one across the abdomen and above the pubic region, and one above the navel. Your navel will be moved as skin is taken away, and you may have to wear special tubes underneath your skin for a couple of days to assist in draining. For a partial Abdominoplasty, you will only need work below the navel and this will involve just the one incision across the abdomen likely leaving the navel in place. You will be given anesthesia so you’ll be under during the 1 to 5 hour procedure. Possible Complications can include improper healing, infection, bleeding from the incision, and blood clots. You may have to return for a second procedure to correct these complications.
Step Three: Heal. Do not smoke for at least two weeks after any kind of surgery. Not even a little, for smoking can inhibit the healing after a procedure and cause complications to the surgery if you smoke prior. There will be pain and swelling. It is suggested that you spend as little time on your feet at possible and have someone to assist you for at least the first few days post op. You will want to have ice packs, easy fit clothing handy and you’ll want to take care getting in and out of the shower. It will take up to 2 months to heal completely and it is recommended that you prepare to take month off from work. After healing, and becoming satisfied with your Tummy Tuck Surgery, diet and exercise will help you to maintain your new body.
