Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can greatly reduce the superficial wrinkles, scars, acne, and aging signs, returning a smoother appearance to the skin and is usually used to treat face and neck areas. In microdermabrasion, special crystals are used to remove the uppermost skin layer, also called stratum corneum. Deeper treatment may be necessary in the cases of extensive skin damage, although treatment usually goes farther than epidermis. Thus, microdermabrasion isn’t used to treat deep scarring and wrinkles, as well as extensive discoloration because these conditions are probably extending into the dermis. Chemical peels or laser resurfacing can get you much more satisfactory results in these cases. Since microdermabrasion only leads to little injure of the skin, scarring and pigmentation risks associated with it are especially low, compared to different kinds of surface treatments. Thus, microdermabrasion can be safely performed on people with every skin type.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion treatment usually lasts from thirty to forty five minutes. In contrast to chemical peels and laser resurfacing, this procedure is very painless, so the anesthesia is seldom used. Before the operation, your doctor can advise you to apply creams that contain alphahydroxy or retinoic acids to your skin, among others, that will extend the results of the operation. Right before the treatment, your face will be carefully cleansed, often using a cleanser based on alcohol. Your physician can also give you protective goggles. Performing the operation, the doctor uses a special emitter of pressurized crystals on the skin surface. Using single strokes, the doctor guides it around the area being treated, removing damaged layers of skin. The vacuum sucks back the crystals, as well as removed skin. Redness may be experienced for several hours after the operation, although you’re going to be able to return to the normal daily tasks immediately after the procedure. The physician can use cream or ointments around the areas that were treated to keep them properly moist while healing. Skin can continue to peel after the procedure, so it’s important to use the ointments as prescribed by the physician. Skin may appear sunburned for several days and will be more light-sensitive. Thus, you should use SPF15 sunscreen or more. You are likely to have from five to ten treatments to hold the resulting changes, starting from one every week or two, decreasing to one operation a month to twice a year.
