If you have a tattoo that you no longer want, there are now more options than ever for getting rid of it. One new method is Q switched laser tattoo removal. This relatively new technology uses lasers to break up the pigment in tattoos, and over time the body will absorb the ink and the tattoo will disappear. It is one of the best options as it is relatively painless and has a high success rate. It does not cause unwanted side effects or damage surrounding tissue. If you are planning for laser tattoo removal, continue reading more about this treatment option.

Q-Switched Laser Types:

There are several kinds of Q-Switched lasers. They are differentiated by the wavelength of light that each emits. The variable wavelengths of the Q-switched laser determine the exact use case. The three common Q-switched lasers are as follows:

Q-Switched Nd: YAG Laser: This type of laser is used for darkened scars, brown birthmarks, and non-ablative skin rejuvenation. It emits a 1064 nm wavelength. It is popular for removing a vast variety of tattoo colors.

Q-Switched Alexandrite Laser: This type of laser is used for lighter tattoos, sun spots, age spots, melasma, brown birthmarks, and vascular lesions. It emits a 755 nm wavelength. It can remove rare tattoo colors such as sky blue and lime green and black ink tattoos.

Q-Switched Ruby Laser: This type of laser is used for tattoos with red, orange, and yellow pigments. It emits a 694 nm wavelength.

As it is an advanced technology, the Q-switched laser treatments are useful for several conditions such as:

  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Angiomas
  • Spider veins
  • Sunspots
  • Age spots
  • Tatoo removal
  • Treatment of onychomycosis
  • Freckles
  • Birthmarks
  • Pigmented lips
